Who we are

Hi, I’m Suze, born and raised in Lower Hutt and solo mum to a 4 and a half year old and a 1 year old.  I discovered babywearing when my oldest was a few weeks old, and it was suggested to help with her reflux. I started off with a stretchy and fell in love with babywearing instantly. My non-sleeping, all-day-screaming baby was magically calmer, took naps, and my arms were much happier! Not to mention I regained the use of my hands! Babywearing with my eldest enabled me to bond with her and to go back to work as a nanny.  Up until the birth of her little sister my eldest was still worn daily. Babywearing was essential for me with two children to help retain my sanity!  These days we live a life full of messy fun at Lower Hutt Playcentre and enjoy long walks by the river, bush or beach with our dog. I am super passionate about Babywearing and have experience with all styles of carriers, I am particularly clued up on buckle carriers, meh dai, and ring slings. I am a certified Slingababy peer supporter.

Hi, I’m Holly, born and raised in Lower Hutt and mumma to my 2 and a half year old boy, Phoenix. When my son was born one of my aunties came and visited for a week to help me out if I needed it. While she was here, she made me a DIY wrap and we have been addicted to babywearing ever since! For us and our sleep-intolerant child it meant he would take naps longer that 15 minutes and overall became a much happier baby. Ever since then we have baby worn every day, our pram has gone into storage! Not to mention the best part, the snuggles and bonding! Our favorite things to do are getting messy at playcentre, walks, picking flowers and knitting at the end of a long day. I am a certified Slingababy peer supporter.

I’m Nicola, mama to two boys, Cassidy and Shiloh. A dear friend lent me a stretchy wrap when Cassidy was born 4 years ago, and I’ve been wearing most days since then. Getting jobs done, helping babies to sleep, getting out and about – I cannot picture my life without babywearing! At the moment I’m at home with the boys, but my husband and I alternate being the primary caregiver, and he’s a babywearing convert too. I’m really excited to be part of Babywearing Wellington.  I am a certified Slingababy peer supporter.

Kia ora, my name is Briaane. I have a 3 year old son who keeps this solo mother busy day and night. I first used a stretchy wrap to carry my little guy as a newborn, then had a brief dabble with woven wraps. We now mostly use our buckle carriers, and there’s always one in the car for our trips around town!  I am passionate about supporting parents and caregivers to learn about baby wearing as a useful tool and lovely experience to share with a little one. Being a part of baby wearing Wellington gives me the opportunity to learn more about baby wearing. It’s wonderful to be a part of this community.  I am a Slingababy peer supporter.

I’m Elissa, a new first-time mum to young Jack. Babywearing for me meant freedom. Originally from Canada I had no family close at hand to help with the early days of motherhood. My stretchy wrap gave me the freedom to get out and walk around the block or to curl up on the couch and enjoy a cup of tea while keeping my bub close. As my boy strived to break all records in terms of size (12kgs by 7 months!!) I found my husband’s structured carrier to be more comfortable. Since joining the team I’m enamoured by the mei dai wrap as it can move from one carer to another without any fuss. Needless to say I’ve been bitten by the babywearing bug.

  1. Hi there, I would love join in, become a member and to hire a ssc but I have one slight problem. I am a full time working mum Mon-Friday so would never be able to attend a meeting without taking a day off. I was just wondering if your team had considered a weekend meeting or if there was any alternative options?

    Thanks so much 🙂

    • Hi Alex, thanks for your message, as a non-profit organisation run by a few volunteers, unfortunately the times we can meet is limited due to our family and work commitments. As an alternative to hiring from Babywearing Wellington you could hire a carrier through Woven or Baby on the Move and if you need one on one support there is a Babywearing Consultant nearby in Otaki who I’m sure would be happy to help you out, http://www.carried.co.nz
