What an awesome babywearing week! This was the seventh year that Babywearing Wellington has participated in Babywearing Week events. We were once again lucky to have some great companies offer their support and products for us to share with the Babywearing Wellington community at our events.
We kicked off our week with our DIY ring sling workshop held at the Petone Depot on Saturday 1 October. Our attendees learnt about the different shoulder style options, and then there was hissing of irons and whirring of machines as everyone busily made their ring slings.
Everyone got to take home a goodie bag filled with products from our fabulous sponsors, as well as their very own ring sling!
Unfortunately by Saturday night the weather was forecasting a lot of rain for Sunday, right when we had our slingwalk scheduled, so we decided to move it indoors. We met at Te Papa on Sunday 2nd October, signed in and handed out goodie bags (yep, filled with awesome stuff from our sponsors) and then did a ‘Te Papa Takeover’ as Babywearers explored and wandered throughout. It was really cool to see baby wearers in every direction 🙂 We met up at the Marae for our major spot prize draws. We had five carriers to give away!
We had planned a picnic in the park with a free Kangatraining class from Penina at Kangatraining Wellington North, however, waking up on Tuesday morning again the weather wasn’t looking nice. It was raining and cloudy and unfortunately we made the call to cancel the picnic. Thanks to the Wellington Baby On The Move Stores (Wellington North, Wellington South and Lower Hutt) we had a Lillebaby original to give away at our picnic, but because we couldn’t give this away at the picnic we decided that we would do a draw at our October Slingmeet instead.
On the days where we didn’t have events planned we held photo competitions on our Facebook page. We had 3 photo competitions planned, and we drew a winner from each themed day for a spot prize – a munch food feeder as well as some goodies from our other sponsors. We held an extra photo competition when our picnic was cancelled with a prize of manduca fumbee suck pads and nubies leg warmers donated by My Natural Baby. At the end of the week we had a draw for a ‘winners choice’ prize of a $50 voucher for Carry My Baby, or a Classic Moby Stretchy Wrap from Scarecrow Farm for everyone who had shared a photo to our Facebook page during the week. It was fantastic to see everyone sharing their photos with us!
Our week of events finished on Friday with our October sling meet held at the Southern Cross. It was our busiest meet of the year and it was great to have Penina join us and offer a deal to our Babywearing Wellington members for her Kangatraining classes. We did the draw for the lillebaby at the end of the meet, and sent it out to the very happy mum over the weekend.
We are very grateful for all of our sponsors who helped us to celebrate Babywearing Week 2016 by donating products to use in our goodie bags, or who gave us carriers to give away.
