NZ Babywearing Week

Babywearing Wellington Babywearing Week Celebrations 2014

As you may know, next week is International Babywearing Week.

In New Zealand we have our own celebrations which you can find out about at or

We at Babywearing Wellington have been hard at work organising events for you and here are the details:

Ring Sling DIY Workshop

Sunday 5th October, 10:30am, The Petone Depot

Limited spaces: booking essential

We’ll be kicking off our New Zealand Babywearing Week celebrations with a little DIY.
In this workshop you’ll make a basic ring sling under the guidance of our crafty committee members, Evie and Hester.
The cost is $20 per person and for this we will provide materials, equipment and instruction.
This is aimed at those with little sewing experience, though it would be helpful if you have operated a sewing machine before and can sew a straight line.
We can only accommodate a limited number of attendees at this workshop so please get in touch with us at to book. We will require payment up front to secure a place. This is not refundable but it is transferable.

Stash Picnic

Friday, 10th October, 10am, Frank Kitts Park
Weather permitting

Come along and hang out in the sun with some fellow baby wearers. Bring a picnic and your stash for a bit of fun. If we can convince her, Anne might even demonstrate some babywearing yoga moves 😉

This event will be cancelled in case of unsuitable weather.

Babywearing Wellington’s Fifth Annual Slingmeet
Sunday, 12th October, Frank Kitts Park
Registration from 9:30am. Walk starts at 10am
We will be concluding our celebration of New Zealand Babywearing Week with our annual sling walk through town. This year we’ll be starting at Frank Kitts Park at 10am then walking past Te Papa, onto Courtenay Place and then Cuba St ending at the Southern Cross where we will be drawing spot prizes.

Register on the day from 9:30am at Frank Kitts. The first 50 families to register on the day will receive a goodie bag with giveaways and vouchers.

We will be walking rain or shine. In the event of heavy rain we will advise an alternative meeting place via Facebook and our blog.

We’d love to see you all there with your child/ren and favourite carriers, and it would be great if you could spread the word around your friends and family. Everyone is welcome – you don’t need to have a ‘worn’ baby to attend, and the route is buggy-friendly. The idea is to get as many supporters of babywearing together as we can!

We hope to see you at some or all of these events!
